Firefighters need each other. They can’t afford to allow rifts to come between friendships. There is too much at stake. Their calling has to be a higher calling that supersedes petty disagreement. If two enter a fire, the creed is that two come out of the fire. They need unity of purpose. They strive to look out for the safety of their fellow firefighter.

As Christians, we have a calling that is too high for petty disagreements. We are to “stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel” (Phil. 1:27). Think of what God asks us to do—to pull sinners from the fires of an eternal hell. How could we ever let anything take our eyes off that goal?
